Meet Albert, our newest patient success story at Medical Support Services!

Albert has been working with Shannon, one of our Speech-Language Pathologists, since April 2019. Albert has made such great progress with his functional communication over this time, but especially over this last year with use of his new speech generating device. At the beginning of his speech-language therapy sessions in 2019, Albert was not very interested in playing with Shannon or with other toys. However, Albert is now frequently greeting caregivers and therapists with a wave and consistently uses his device to engage in play with a variety of activities. He also is now able to communicate his wishes in short phrases, including his new favorite – the swing! Getting to watch Albert grow, play, expand his interactions with people around him, and have fun with it all has been a wonderful experience for Shannon to take part in.

Albert also sees Alexandra, one of our Occupational Therapists on staff. When they first started their occupational therapy sessions, Albert avoided using feeding utensils completely. He now loves to use utensils to cut play doh and scoop beans. He has made huge progress with transitioning between activities and engaging in turn taking with his most preferred items. Albert consistently starts his therapy sessions with a big smile, ready to learn something new. He is now engaging in interactive play with his therapists and is willing to try new tasks that are challenging for him.

Meet Albert: Parent Perspective

Meet Albert and his parents and hear their perspective on his journey. “As parents, we are proud of Albert and his progress. We would like to thank the staff at Medical Support Services for all their help towards Albert’s progress. We have seen much improvement on his use of the communication device. He now is able to use it to request items such as food and toys. He is now able to do simple tasks including getting dressed, putting on his shoes, and drinking water from a cup by himself. To us, this is a huge improvement and we are very proud of him.”
