Winter Activity Ideas

1

Indoor Activities

Obstacle Course/Scavenger Hunt

Set up a simple indoor obstacle course using pillows, furniture, tape, cones, orblankets. Kids can crawl under tables, jump over pillows, or balance on lines made of masking tape, can add hidden toys to find on the way.

Balloon Volleyball/Sports

  • Blow up a ballon or multiple to hit or kick back and forth or make up your own games

Freeze Dance/Simon Says

  • Play music and let the children dance freely, but when the music stops, they have to freeze in place. Can incorporate direction following or pose copying for body awareness with “Simon says”.

Sensory Activities

  • Make fake snow (baking soda and slowly add water until the right texture) hide toys to find inside or make different animal tracks, can also use playdoh or other materials on hand (if doing outside with real snow gloves highly recommended)
  • Small bin with rice, cotton ball, water (can add ice cubes for winter fun), added toys for sensory exploration and free play
  • Freeze small toys in ice to dig out with different tools

Outdoor Activities

  • Footprint race- make different footprints/tracks from different family members to try copying through the snow, can also shovel/pack down a track through the snow to race around
  • Animal Prints- use chalk or watercolor to make prints on the driveway or sidewalk and walk like an animal across
  • Nature walk/snow shoeing- going for a walk outside looking for different things in nature ex. leaves or animals

Snow Related Activities

  • Snowball toss/snowball relay- make snowballs to throw back and forth or at targets, balance a snowball in a big spoon or one hand while walking back and forth for a relay race
  • Sledding/tubing- find a local hill or open space, can either go down a hill or pull sled across space with attached rope, can pull other people or snow for added fun
  • Shoveling/building with snow- use shovels or other tools around the house to dig or build with snow, ideas: snowmen, igloos, towers
