Spring time can mean warm weather! Getting outside and enjoying some activities can benefit children in many ways. Physical strength and endurance are two important factors of child development. Check out the list of activities we’ve put together to get your family outside and moving this Spring season!

Spring Outdoor Activities

  • Jump over or splash in the puddles! This develops strength and power in the legs.
  • Up for a challenge? Explore trail hikes. The uneven trails and natural elements can be used for practicing balance, which strengthens the ankles and feet.
  • Don’t miss a “beet”! Spend the day cleaning up the yard or garden. This activity has many benefits including working on bending at the waist, squatting down and improving core strength.
  • Bring out the bike! Bike riding can promote muscle strength, endurance, and balance all in one!
  • Try watering the flowers or garden. This activity practices strengthening the upper body.
  • Do you have a bird feeder? Assist your child on helping with this task. The benefits include increased arm strength and coordination.
  • One of our favorite activities is… Flying a kite! This activity serves a dual purpose, promoting arm and core strength. Your child may even be tasked with running, which is an opportunity to practice the skill of balance.
  • Let’s go on a rock hunt! During your hunt, collect cool rocks, sticks, or flowers with caution. This special activity is beneficial for bending at the hips, squatting, and picking up/carrying heavy objects to improve arm strength.

Benefits of Spending Time Outdoors

  • Absorb vitamin D from the sunlight
  • Reduces anxiety and stress
  • Boosts energy and improves mood
  • Boosts your immune system
  • Better air quality intake
  • Helps us understand our environment / nature
  • Improves focus
