Pediatric and Developmental Feeding Therapy

While it is known that Speech-Language Pathologists treat speech and language disorders in all ages, many do not realize that SLPs also treat feeding and swallowing disorders. Additionally, both SLPs and OT’s can target sensory feeding difficulties. Our facilities include a fully functional mock apartment including a kitchen set up to simulate at home feeding tasks. Feeding therapy improves oral motor skills, a child’s ability to eat and drink independently, and exposes picky eaters to a wider variety of food.

Benefits of Feeding Therapy

  • Improved oral motor skills such as biting and chewing food and swallowing safely
  • Ability to drink from a bottle or cup and breastfeed
  • Increased ability to operate feeding utensils
  • Independent feeding
  • Eating or touching challenging foods
  • Increased tolerance in messy play
  • Eating foods they enjoy
  • Adding new foods to your child’s diet

Feeding Therapy can be helpful in managing impairments related, but not limited to:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Disorders
  • Down Syndrome
  • Food Allergies
