We have all encountered some picky eaters during the holidays, here are some tips and tricks to ensure that your child eats something this Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving Taste Testers
When it comes to food, children tend to be less adaptive to veering from their usual meals. To help your kiddo adjust to special holiday dishes trial meals before Thanksgiving Day to get them familiar with the different foods. Introducing your picky eater to new meals overtime instead of suddenly will result in less stress for your child around the dinner table.
Recruit a Helper
Have your kiddo join you in the kitchen and help prep meals. Kids who help cook are more likely to eat the food themselves. Keep things simple, let them mix ingredients together or add toppings to various dishes.
Find Food Bridges
Bridge the gap between foods your child likes and foods that your child is not familiar with. Do so by finding dishes with similar color, taste, and texture to meals your child enjoys.
Prepare a Thanksgiving Plate
If you know the menu ahead of time and notice that your child will eat any of what is offered, prepare a separate plate for them. Pack chicken tenders or mac and cheese so you do not have to make a mid-party run to the nearest fast-food restaurant.
Every child will react differently to various meals and techniques. Try not to stress out too much over your picky eaters’ habits, instead have family members focus on gratitude and love for one another.
