    • Summer Programming 2024
          • Summer break is an amazing time for kids, but as parents/guardians, we can’t help but worry that all this time off from school will cause their skills to fall behind. This concern is amplified for kids with developmental and physical diagnoses. That’s why we have crafted clinician-led summer programs throughout all our clinics. For our 2024 summer programming, kids can work on improving gross and fine motor skills, physical fitness, range of motion, language skills, handwriting, and picky eating issues! Now they can increase their therapy skills and have fun while doing it!

We know that life can get overwhelming for kids. With school work, social distancing, mask wearing and other factors your kiddo might have a difficult time coping here and there. In these times of high stress, anxiety and anger here are ten strategies that can help calm your child:

Counting is a good distraction that requires complete focus. This can help counteract any anger or stress your child may be feeling.

Getting your child’s breathing under control can reduce physical symptoms of anxiety or excitement. Try having your child breath in through their nose and out through their mouth three times or until your child is calm.

Water has natural calming properties. Not only will your child feel more relaxed, but this will also help them stay hydrated.

walk.png

Taking a walk in nature or around the house can help clear your child’s mind and focus on their surroundings. During the winter months, try opening a window or two so your child gets fresh air while walking around your home.

Give your child a piece of paper and coloring utensils and let their creativity soar. They will feel accomplished which will help soothe them, by the time your kiddo is finished.

music.png

A slow tempo song can help quiet your kid’s mind and relax their muscles.

Reading is known to reduce stress. Spend some time with your child before bed reading their favorite book to calm their mind. It also helps in increasing their comprehension.

ball.png

Have your child spend some time squeezing a stress ball! Strengthen the nerves and muscles which improves the nervous system and curbs stress.

Your child’s environment could be overstimulating them. To reduce heightened emotions, find a quiet space for your child to decompress.

Sitting or lying down in a dark room can give you kiddo’s mind a mental break from everything it’s trying to process. After they have been given some time to clear their mind, your child may appear calmer.
