Frequently Asked Questions

We are a pediatric therapy clinic and primarily serve a pediatric population, but it varies! We have some patients in their 20s and older whom we have treated since childhood. It depends on the individual, their diagnosis, and our team’s availability.

We are currently accepting new patients at all locations. Please call us at (262)287-0090 to schedule an appointment with our Medical Receptionists who will walk you through the process.

An initial evaluation is scheduled for 60 minutes. We encourage arriving 15 minutes prior to the appointment to complete any necessary paperwork.

This depends on the insurance. Some kids can start right away and some require preauthorization before treatment can start. Please direct any questions to our Patient Care Coordinator.

Yes, you do need a family doctor or pediatrician referral to receive therapy and bill medical insurance.

The duration of therapy services varies with each child. If therapy is recommended then 1-2 sessions per week is typical.

Bring any orthotics, walking devices, wheelchairs, speaking devices that your child uses regularly, a script, IEP, and 504 plan.

Typically your child will have a set schedule with the same therapist(s). However it is common for another therapist to cover appointments due to schedule changes, such as vacation or illness, or if you need to reschedule your regular appointment.

Yes! Many children receive multiple services in the same day, depending on the child’s endurance and availability for scheduling.

Yes! We have various private treatment rooms at each location.

Parents are welcome to stay in the gym if it makes them feel more comfortable, or they can relax in the lobby while their child enjoys the session.

Siblings are not permitted to play in the gym or remain in the waiting room at this time. When the weather is nice, families are allowed to play with siblings in the available green space surrounding the clinics. Caregivers are responsible for maintaining the safety of their children at all times.

Treatment visit locations are determined by medical necessity at the time of the initial evaluation.

Children are not required to do so.

We are typically open 7-6pm Monday through Thursday and 7-5pm on Fridays. We have limited Saturdays availability for reschedule appointments from 8-12, at varying locations

We have various mobility devices, seating and positioning equipment, adaptive feeding equipment, and dressing tools that we are able to trial in the clinic and loan on a 2 week basis for trials in the home prior to assisting the family with ordering an assistive device.

We work with various local vendors at each clinic location to assist families in ordering adaptive equipment. Please speak to your therapist regarding the type of equipment you are interested in and they will assist you through this process.

We do not offer ABA services.

Yes, Medical Support Services is in-network with most insurance providers.

We do not at this time.

Yes! A child can receive both services at the same time and our therapists will coordinate with the treatment team there. The Medicaid program will cover treatment for both.

Both offer support but target distinct aspects of a child’s development and learning! To learn more, check out our blog post where we detail the differences more:

Frequently Asked Questions: Aquatic Therapy

We ask that you bring towels, swim diapers, water shoes, and swimsuits. Street clothes are not allowed in the pool per YMCA requirements.

Enter the Kenosha YMCA through the front doors and let them know you are there for therapy with Medical Support Services. Follow the hallway that runs along the left side of the exercise equipment. There are signs directing towards the locker rooms and pool area.

There are private changing rooms in the hallway leading to the pool area that can be utilized. For older children or young adults that require a large mat table, there are some available in a private room in the small pool deck area.

You should expect to see your child having lots of fun! There is an observing area just outside of the pool deck for parents to stay and watch the session. There are loads of fun toys and floats for your child to use to assist them throughout their therapy session.

As of right now, we have limited availability on Wednesday afternoons only. From 12-4pm the pool is for therapy sessions only. From 4-6 the pool will be shared with the public and others participating in private swim lessons at the YMCA

Aquatic sessions are similar to clinic sessions, lasting 45-60 minutes.
