If you are stumped on what to do for Halloween this year, know you are not alone. COVID, the unwanted party crasher, has made things a little tricky this year (pun intended). We want to make sure your kiddos stay safe and enjoy Halloween so we have a few alternatives to the traditional Trick-or-Treat to share with you!

Backyard Candy Hunt

Who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned candy hunt? Similar to Easter, hide candy around the yard and let the kiddos go hunting for sweet treats! Not only will this keep kids active, but it will also build awareness for their surroundings.

Trick-or-Treating Indoors

Deck the halls with…Halloween! Set up candy stations around the house and have family members stand at each bowl while the kids go from room-to-room. Go a step further and decorate each room with a different theme to make it feel more like the traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating.

Make Halloween Candy Treats

Hop into the kitchen with your family and put together a delicious dessert made from your favorite candies. Make Reese’s Pieces pie, M&M brownies, Rolo pretzels, or Twix apple salad! The options are endless with a simple search online.

Family Movie Night

Skip trick-or-treating and cozy up indoors with a Halloween movie night instead. Which one’s are your favorite?

Build a Bonfire

Nothing screams fall more than a bonfire! Gather around the pit and roast marshmallows together while telling kid-friendly ghost stories.

Virtual Halloween Party

We have become very familiar with videos calls this year, but let’s make them a little more fun! Invite your friends and family from wherever they are to celebrate Halloween together. Have a costume contest, play charades, and tell stories!

Pumpkin Carving/Painting Night

If you have already carved pumpkins this month, how about painting some instead! Less hazard, less mess, and just as fun. Give your kids their own pumpkin the decorate and see what ideas they come up with! Turn this activity into a contest and post the results on social media for friends and family to vote their favorite design.
