Countdown to the new year with smiles and laughter instead of anxiety and tears! New Year’s Eve does not have to be noise and late nights, there are plenty of ways to avoid overwhelming your kiddos while also having a blast.

Here are some ways to enjoy celebrating the new year at home with family…

1. Virtual Fireworks Show

Instead of sitting outside and watching bright and loud fireworks, opt to watch a firework show online or on TV. By creating a controlled environment, you will be able to monitor what your child sees and hears and gage their comfort levels.

2. Early Countdown

Waiting until midnight may not be practical for your child depending on their age. Instead of staying up late or waking them up for at 12AM, start your countdown at noon. This way they can participate in any activities and avoid feeling left out for New Year’s Eve.

3. DIY Party Hats

Instead of buying party hats from the store gather your kiddos around the table and design your own! All you need is some construction paper, tape or glue, gems, coloring tools and string. Crafts like this are easy and fun for kids of all ages to enjoy! 4. Host a Quiet Balloon or Confetti Drop

Fill a trash bag with balloons or confetti and hang it from the ceiling or wall. When your countdown begins release it and watch the smiles grow on your kid’s faces.

5. Wrap Up in a Weighted Blanket

Weighted blankets help reduce anxiety and calm adults and children alike. Gather the family for a relaxing movie night to keep your child’s mind off of loud fireworks and other noises.

Happy New Year!
